Anti-fur protesters from the activist collective SURGE, a UK non-profit animal rights organisation, stormed the stage and protested alongside the models walking on the runway at London Fashion Week. The unnamed protester shouted ‘Shame on you. Shame on all of you,’ at all of those present in the room.
The show that was gate-crashed by the protestor was Mary Katrantzou’s showcase of her autumn/winter 2018 range. In light of the incident, her team has released a statement clarifying the use of faux fur. The statement read: “Please note this show did not include any real fur. Only faux fur was used.” It continued by saying: “Thank you so much for your patience and understanding at the show.”
SURGE has been staging protests throughout London Fashion Week where instead of paparazzi, guests were greeted with protesters holding billboards and chanting “blood, blood, blood on your hands”. PETA has been staging protests during London Fashion Week too, making the cruelty funded by the fashion industry known to the public.
