More products added to Sainsbury’s expansive vegan range

Veganuary is almost here, and in preparation, Sainsbury’s have introduced 25 new plant-based products

The supermarket, which won Best Supermarket for Vegan food in the Vegan Food UK’s vote, is holding true to its title, with the additions bringing their plant-based range to include over 100 products. It’s Sainsbury’s fourth vegan expansion, since they launched their next-gen plant-based range in January last year, and it’s packed with delicious and nutritious, and good-value products.

The latest additions come as a response to Sainsbury’s rising demand for plant-based items – the supermarket reported an 82 per cent increase in customers searching for vegan products online, and a 45 per cent increase in sales of plant-based products year-on-year. From smoky jackfruit quarter pounders, to vegan chorizo-style shroomdogs, these tasty new plant-based alternatives hope to change the face of vegan food, and entice vegans, non-vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians alike. The new meat-free alternatives are especially good for those not wanting to miss out on foods they might once have enjoyed, and for people looking to enjoy all the flavour and texture of meat, in plant-based cruelty-free form.

As well as a new chilled range, Sainsbury’s are adding convenient and tasty frozen foods to their selection. Brands at the forefront of plant-based cooking will star in the range, including Sophie’s Kitchen, Lazy Vegan and GARDEIN. Exciting options include Sophie’s Kitchen vegan smoked salmon, and Lazy Vegan’s hassle-free frozen meal kits, with pulled pea protein chunks.

Sainsbury’s is also launching a range of plant-based pizzas, which are sure to be popular. The Love Your Veg! pizza range includes three vegan pizzas, that each count towards one of your five a day, and are packed with fibre and protein. Customers will be able to choose from toppings such as, spicy masala chickpea, and roasted butternut with charred broccoli.

Rachael Matthews, product developer for Sainsbury’s Plant-based, said: “With more than seven million vegetarians in Britain and the meteoric rise of the flexitarian lifestyle, Britain has certainly got the taste for meat alternatives at meal times. Our new range of plant-based products provide innovative and truly delicious options – from the juicy jackfruit quarter pounder to flaky fishless filets – to take the hassle out of cooking flexitarian. We’re really proud to be extending our range for customers with these exciting, flavoursome products and can’t wait to hear how our customers are using them.”

The new range of Sainsbury’s Love Your Veg! plant-based products launches in store and online today, and can be found in the chilled ready meals aisle. The Love Your Veg! pizzas will launch in store and online on the 2nd January 2019, and can be found in the chilled Pizza bays. Similarly, the Vegan Frozen range also launches in store on the 2nd January 2019, and can be found in the frozen aisle, and they’ll be online from the 21st January 2019.

Looking for vegan meat substitutes makes me very sad, vegan 45years, so nit jumping on the popular new vegan bandwagon! There must be many like me who would never consider buying vegan food that looked like meat, or had a meat type name! Being vegan is a choice to live and eat differently…..not a fad of let’s pretend! Everything carries an energy, including product names and intentions etc., so let’s keep vegan simple and pure!!
