As if we needed another reason to love the sweetheart of the newest Star Wars Trilogy, she’s now told the press that she is vegan. The news that Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley follows a vegan lifestyle surfaced during the press tour for the newest film.

Not only has she played a part in revitalising the most popular film franchise, but she is clearly compassionate and this picture of her with her super-sweet companion dog, Muffin who is deaf and blind, made our hearts melt.

Star Wars Star Daisy Ridley (AKA 'Rey’) Is Vegan 1

The beliefs of veganism mirror that of Jedis, and are similar to those of Buddhists, where traditional philosophies teach that eating other sentient beings isn’t the most enlightened choice.

In The Empire Strikes Back Yoda gave a breakdown of how The Force works: “For my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere! Yes, even between the land and the ship.”

During the interview with JOE (Joe.ie), they were discussing dinner options for eating out whilst travelling to promote the film, mentioning a particular Chinese meal she enjoyed saying: “Someone did a great [vegan] order for me, it was very delicious.” The meal was eaten at Mr. Chow. who have restaurants in London, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas and Mexico City.

Ridley’s announcement follows news that Chewbacca may have a vegan ‘lightbulb’ moment in the latest film. Have you seen the new film? Do you think Star Wars is promoting veganism?

I mentioned the subtle “pro-vegan, pro-animal rights” message of the new Star Wars movie to a friend, who is a carnivore…and they didn’t think the message was subtle at all! Which made me even more happy…that a non-vegan person can see there is a clear message in the Chewbacca scene and the scene freeing the racing animals!
