Zac Efron urges fans to donate to animal rescue efforts after California's Woolsey and Hill fires

In the aftermath of California’s Woolsey and Hill fires, vegan actor, Zac Efron, has asked his 36.5 million Instagram followers to make donations to help rescue farm animals.

The actor wrote on his Instagram story: “Swipe up to help the animals displaced by the Woolsey and Hill Fires. They are taking in domestic animals such as dogs, cats and birds, as well as livestock.” Efron’s story directed fans to donate to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund, he said: “My heart goes out to all those caught in the California fires.”

Efron’s admirable use of his influence most likely comes following his recent lifestyle overhaul. Last March, Efron told Teen Vogue magazine that he had been “experimenting with eating purely vegan. That’s completely changed the way that my body works, and the way that I metabolize food, the way it turns into energy, the way that I sleep.” He continued: “It’s been brilliant. It’s been great for my exercise, and great for my routine.”

One of Efron’s motivations leading to his diet change was in part to take better care of his body and to stay healthy for as long as possible. “I think that I want to be able to do what I’m capable of now when I’m 50, 60, 70 years old – like my great-grandfather,” he said.

Besides taking on a plant-based diet for health reasons, it’s clear that Efron loves animals. The A-lister has voiced his love for animals in multiple ways – in April, Efron adopted MACA, a pit bull, saving her from euthanasia.

Barks n’ Bitches, a humane pet shop in Los Angeles, said: “Tilly, now MACA, was being led to the kill room when we stepped in and said we would take her. She was turned around and brought to us! This guy named Zac Efron came in, and fell in love with her. He went through our application process and fostered MACA and just could not give her back.”
