The vegan ice lolly firm OllyLolly, founded in 2015, are using wrappers made from wood in an attempt to save the oceans from plastic waste. OllyLolly, based in Plymouth, want to produce environmentally friendly wrappers for their handmade vegan ice lollies

Mel Mackie, founder of OllyLolly, said: “When we established OllyLolly it became clear to us that many of our competitors are using traditional synthetic plastics, such as Polyethylene Terephthalate, none of which are biodegradable.

“As we sell a significant number of our lollies at outlets in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we feel committed to ensuring we supply our product with ethically responsible wrappers that help prevent further harm to the environment and people.”

OllyLolly, with the slogan ‘free the fruit’, now sells its frozen treats in Nature Flex lolly bags, which are made from wood pulp.

Olly Lollies come in the following flavours:

  • Coconut and Lime
  • Cold Brew Coffee
  • Mango and Raspberry
  • Pear and Ginger
  • Rhubarb and Apple
  • Watermelon and Rose
  • Raspberry
