A Vegan Guide to Glowing Skin

Written by Lily Woods

With spring on its way, who wouldn’t want flawless, healthy, beautiful skin? Finding products in stores that are cruelty-free and vegan can be a daunting task, and so here’s a guide for natural ways to nourish your skin and put your best face forward this spring.

Natural is best

Everybody’s skin is their own, and finding a product that works for one may not work for another. However, whether you have dry, oily, or acne-prone skin, using natural remedies are great for everyone. For dry skin, coconut oil works wonders! Rubbing onto your face in gentle, circular motions helps to get the blood flowing and to make skin supple and radiant. Applying this to the rest of your body is also a great way to keep the overall state of your skin moisturized. If you have oily skin and do not want to add more oil, then an oatmeal mask is perfect! Not only do they absorb excess oil, but oats are also a great way to calm inflamed or irritated skin. Something sweeter? Sugar facial scrubs are a wonderful natural method to exfoliate your skin, and to rid of any unwanted or uneven pigmentation and marks from acne.

Its not all about what you put on your skin

A healthy, nutrient-filled diet is key to giving you that unmatched glow. Having a balanced diet full of vitamins, such as C, A, and E is crucial in enabling your skin to regenerate older cells, and to maintain a healthy and blemish-free complexion. But where can these vitamins be found? Rule number one for a vegan seeking glowing skin: bright, vibrant fruits go hand-in-hand with bright, vibrant skin. Snacking on fruits such as strawberries, kiwi, and oranges give you and your skin that much needed daily dose of vitamin C that allows for soft, supple skin.

Spring is on its way, so why not some spring greens? Dark green veggies (or any green vegetable, really) are crucial in maintaining a healthy level of vitamin A, or iron, that allows for a continuing growth of cells. They also keep your skin firm, often being cited as sources of age-defiance. Eating a portion or more a day of vegetables such as kale or spinach, or others like carrots and sweet potatoes, enable your skin to maintain its firmness and youth while also replacing older cells with new ones.

As well as these vitamins, natural fats and oils are also important in maintaining that glow. Foods such as avocados, along with nuts and seeds including pumpkin, sunflower, and almonds, give you a boost of vitamin E while allowing your skin to maintain its elasticity and smooth complexion. Hydration is also key. By drinking between 6 and 8 glasses of water a day, it rids your body of unwanted toxins and ensures your skin stays soft, firm, and radiant.

Getting that natural glow has never been easier!
