Actress and passionate vegan activist Evanna Lynch has demonstrated animal testing techniques for cosmetics on herself in a new video. Filmed in the style of a make-up tutorial, the video was filmed to raise awareness of World Week for Animals in Laboratories with peta2.
At the beginning of the video, Lynch explains that many brands that claim to be cruelty-free still test their products on animals – a requirement by law to sell on the Chinese market. Brands such as Clinique, Benefit, Nars, Maybelline and Estee Lauder are named — all of which sell in the UK.
Rabbits are commonly used as test subjects for cosmetics as they have no tear ducts and they are, therefore, unable to let their eyes water to help wash the product from their eyes. Throughout the video, Lynch appears to be subjected to irritable chemicals, eye injections and force fed as she explains that many animals are force fed until they die.
Lynch ends the video by saying: “If you’re not okay with putting animals through these tests, then maybe you should only be buying cosmetics that are truly cruelty-free.”
